Computer Worms- a self-replicating malware program that spreads to other drives, USB drives, nodes and computers on the network, etc.
BELOW IS ONLY A PARTIAL COMPUTER WORM LIST!!!
- BadTrans- 2001; an email worm that exploited older Internet Explorer versions and executed upon opening of emails where it would replicate itself to emails on the host machine and would install a keystroke logger that would log everything typed by the host and send the keystroke log to other designated emails directed by the cybercriminal(s). Several free email addresses were used by the cybercriminals where they raked in over 100,000 keylog reports within the first 24 hours of being released which qualifies it for the worm list.
- Bagle or Beagle- 2004; written solely in assembly language, Bagle was a mass-mailing worm that used its own SMTP engine to mail itself as an attachment to entries in the host's address book. The use of its own SMTP engine nominates this malware to the infamous worm list.
- Blaster, a.k.a. Lovsan, Lovesan and MSBlast- 2003; the Blaster worm infected Windows XP and Windows 2000. The Blaster worm executed a Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attack against Windows Update.

- BugBear Worm- discovered in Sep. 2002; an infamous worm that is a standalone program that copies itself and may have a payload that damages computers or systems. BugBear had the capability of key-logging and had administrative backdoor capabilities. A destructive worm that was very infamous during its heyday, making its way to PC Virus Doctors worm list.
- Code Red Worm- 2001; an infamous worm discovered July 13, 2001. Code Red sought out computers running IIS Windows Server and attacked websites defacing them and putting up, "HELLO! Welcome to http://www.worm.com! Hacked By Chinese!". Code Red infected up to 359,000 computers at its peak six days after discovered. The arrogance of the authors and infamy qualifies Code Red to many malware and worm lists.
- Conficker, a.k.a Downup, Downadup and Kido- found in November 2008; the Conficker worm targets Windows Operating Systems and executes dictionary attacks on the administration and upon success has the ability to control the machine and launch other attacks across the network.
- ILOVEYOU, a.k.a. Love Bug Worm- on May 4, 2000 people started receiving emails with "ILOVEYOU" in the subject title with an attachment named "LOVE-LETTER-FOR-YOU.TXT" which had .vbs as a hidden extension. When the attachment was opened, the ILOVEYOU worm copied itself to everyone in the user's address book, eventually infecting tens of millions of computers.
- Klez Worm- Oct. 2001; an infamous worm that had many variants propagating by emails, networks and by file infection. Klez exploited Internet Explorer's components used in Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Outlook Express; Symantec has a Klez Worm removal tool.
- Morris- Nov. 1988; Morris worm finds its way into the worm list as one of the first worms to enter systems via the internet. Morris took down the internet that was used by universities and research institutes primarily; commercial websites were not available.
- MyDoom Worm, a.k.a. W32.MyDoom@mm, Novarg, Mimail.R and Shimgapi- an infamous worm first sighted on Jan. 26, 2004 that grew exponentially beyond any other worm at time. MyDoom served up backdoors and denial of service attacks.

- Nimda Worm- released one week after 9/11, 2001, this worm was intially linked to Al Quiada, but proven differently over time. Infections propagated by email, shared networks, infected websites and Microsoft exploits.
- Sasser Worm- a computer worm, identified in April 30, 2004 that worked its way through computers and networks until it was patched. Sasser shutdown or greatly hinered businesses like Delta Airlines, cancelling several trans-Atlantic flights, news source Agence France-Presse (AFP), Nordic Insurance Company and others, according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sasser_(computer_worm). Side-effects of the worm include C:\WIN.LOG or C:\WIN2.LOG on the root drive.
- SoBig Worm- this infamous email worm was discovered in Aug. '03 and infected millions of Windows-based computers that year. The email was delivered with subject lines such as, "Re: Approved", "Thank You", "Your Details" and other seamingly harmless subject lines. The attachments were subsequently labeled as benign appearing nomenclature. SoBig attached itself to email addresses on infected machines via its own SMTP engine. The author is still to be found although Microsoft had a $250,000 award for SoBig's creators arrest.
- Sober Worm-
- SQL Slammer- 2003; a worm executing a denial of service, slamming/dismantelling service at routers/computers/systems leaving the "internet overworked". SQL Slammer whas not compiled in SQL language but exploited a buffer overflow in Microsoft's SQL Server. Home user's were infected if Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine was installed. A.K.A. SQL-Hell and Sapphire.

- Storm Worm- 2007; this infamous worm entered the internet via a false alarm involving bad weather.
- Stuxnet- the latest and foremost of the "worm of worms" to deserve a top spot in the Worm List; a computer worm discovered in the operational system of Iran's nuclear facility in July, 2010 by a security firm VirusBlockAda from Belarus. Stuxnet is the first worm designed for industrial-type use where it gathers information, can even reprogram system files and operate the centrifuges in the nuclear facility where the worm allegedly destroyed physical equipment. The worm is believed to have entered the nuclear facility via USB drive.
