July 24, 2007- Storm Worm has soared to new levels in the last week that brings the largest attacks in two years. More than 200,000,000 spam emails have been sent in that time that directs users to malicious sites where the worm is installed. There has also been an increase in the number of e-cards that have been sent recently containing the Storm Worm.
Solution: (1) DO NOT open emails from unknown senders! (2) Use and scan with anti-virus software at least once a week.
July 19, 2007- Variants of the Virtumonde adware program have been spreading themselves with the help of trojans hwere they hide in the system using rootkits. May and June saw a huge influx of the adware program that can grind systems to a halt.
Solution: Use and scan with spyware and adware removers at least once a week.
July 10, 2007- Storm Worm is once again morphing and is involved in spam attacks in email notices that state, 'your computer is infected', prompting users to click on a link that directs users to a malicious website where the worm installs itself.
Once directed to the site there is a prompt for the user to download software that is malicious in intent allowing the attacker to fully control the users system remotely. Optimum caution is urged as many anti-virus vendors have not been able to detect this worm as of yet.
Solution: Never open emails from unknown senders AND never click on links to sites you are unaware.
Extra: Report Paypal scams by replying to spoof@paypal.com and ebay scams by forwarding to spoof@ebay.com
July 4, 2007- Computer security experts are warning about cyber attacks on businesses. Businesses around the globe have been targeted because of cultural and political subversion and the attacks have been coordinated by several parties that launch denial of service attacks or cyber hacking. Businesses need to make sure they have stealthy updated security running and updated firewalls up at all times.
