June 29, 2007- Malicious emails have been directed toward top executives in large corporations in order to embed a trojan that is delivered in a Microsoft Word attachment, according to InformationWeek. The purpose of the attack is to gain access to intellectual property.
Solution: Never open attachments from unknown senders.
June 22, 2007- For the first time in history, all 92 U.S. Assistant Prosecutors, other attorneys and prosecutors, local law enforcement and other government officials will meet to discuss online security, according to an article by InformationWeek. The third annual Government Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (GFIRST) Conference is entitled Working to Solve the Cyber Security Puzzle.
June 16, 2007- The F.B.I. and Computer Emergency Response Team are busy contacting I.S.P.s about infected botnets within their networks, according to an article by InformationWeek. Botnets are created by hackers and malware authors who infect machines with trojans and viruses in order to take them over and control them. One of the recent malware writers was James Brewer of Arlington, TX. Many computer users do not know their machines are infected and being controlled by others. "Because botnets are widely distributed, the FBI considers them a growing threat to national security, the national information infrastructure, and the economy, according to an agency advisory issued last week.", according to InformationWeek.
June 13, 2007- The U.S. Government is taking measures to stop cyber attacks by China, according to InformationWeek.com. Lt. Gen. Robert Elder is to head a three-star command center at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana that employs about 25,000 military personnel. The center will be the command for communications to survellience to infrastructure security. The Chinese are responsible for tons of trojans and other malware that are coming into computer networks that Dallas Virus Removal is ameliorating.
June 8, 2007- June is National Internet Safety Awareness month, according to a resolution unanamously passed by the US Senate. The resolution asks for parents to be aware of their children's online activities as evidence points to 1 in 4 of kid's hiding their online activity from their parents, according to Information Week. Also entities Congress asks people to be aware of is cyber criminals who the Department of Justice described as those involved in "cyberstalking, cyberbullying, child pornography, Internet fraud, and identity theft".
June 1, 2007- Last month saw a wave of trojans and worms such as Zhelatin and Warezov. These worms permeated email boxes, inundating the world with an onslaught of malware. Unprotected users are just spreading tons of advertising that no computers want to see.
