February 28, 2007- PC Virus Doctors reported this story on a blog this morning and now some of the resources have "disappeared" from websites originally reporting the story. South Korean hackers attempting to hide their identity flooded 3 of 13 top domain servers in an attempt to bring down the servers responsible for directing traffic to the top level domain .org controlled by the company UltraDNS. Some of the root servers are operated by the U.S. Department of Defense that are the internet's primary oversight body.

A similar attack occurred in 2002, however, with the latest attack, hardly anyone noticed as the same 13 servers were slammed like the earlier attack but now the servers distribute their load around the globe.

February 23, 2007- The Japanese National Police agency reported a 40% increase in cybercrime for 2006 in a newly released report. The crimes mostly involved fraud from online internet auctions. February 20, 2007- www.FCW.com, Federal Computer Weekly, has reported that China is the latest cyber threat to the United States, according to Naval Network Warfare Command. Netwarcom is reporting that it is an all out war with hundreds of attacks occurring daily. One of the United States Navy Officials speaking on conditions of anonymity said the attacks have reached a campaign-style warfare where it is force-on-force engagement.

The official said that it is believed the Chinese Government is behind the attacks because of the level of sophistication. The attackers are using spear phishing where they try to lure Dept. of Defense (DoD) employees into clicking on malicious URLs. The hackers also are using multi-pronged attacks and traditional methods with trojans and worms with a new twist where they will plant a virus then distract the monitor while another attack comes in "slow and low". The anonymous official said that the coordination between the various military cyber resources will be ongoing as they consolidate.
