December 19, 2006- A significant phishing group was dismantled in Spain recently. The leader of the cyber gang is said to have been a hcker since the age of 12 and is considered one of the "most eminent hackers in Europe at the moment', according to VirusList.com. Operation "Siluro" neted six individuals who had banking details of 20,000 people and an email database of over 200,000. The Spanish authorities discovered over 500 back cards and "a lot of counterfeit European passports".

The gang used a fake half-price online mobile phone charging account to defraud thousands of people.

December 19, 2006- Microsoft won a British court case against a spammer in the country that sold emails to companies that used them for spam. The company called Bizads was told to stop selling their email lists that were sent to Microsofts Hotmail accounts. Paul McDonald the owner argued that the recipients wanted to receive the emails but the judge ruled those were not willing recipients.
