Dallas Computer Repair NewsOctober 23, 2006- Microsoft's Internet Explorer has recently been blamed for a vulnerability although the company states it is actually a flaw in Outlook and is currently being investigated, according the security company Secunia. Opera was also found by Secunia to have a flaw in its browser Opera with repair fixes due soon.
October 11, 2006- Microsoft released their big repair "patch Tuesday" with 26 record vulnerabilities repaired in 10 patches with 19 rated as "critical" that could be exploited remotely. According to Microsoft, the patches fix problems in Windows and their Office products including Excell, Powerpoint and their general Office suite.
October 5, 2006- Third party vendors are closing the security holes in older Microsoft operating systems and releasing current patches before Microsoft's official releases. ZERT, Zero-day Emergency Response Team, is a group of computer security professionals working to patch zero-day threats that continue to plague Microsoft OSs. ZERT issued a Windows Shell repair patch for Windows 98, 98 SE, ME, Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3) that is no longer supported by Microsoft. Microsoft plans on discontinuing support for XP SP1 on October 10 of this year in anticipation of the release of Microsoft's new operating system, VISTA.
Dallas Computer Repair NewsMicrosoft is not very upbeat about third parties patching and repairing Windows systems as the conglomarate would like its customers to upgrade to newer operating systems. Microsoft has started releasing patches before the once a month "official release dates" in anticipation of third party vendors releases. The release day is sometimes known as "patch Tuesday" with the following day known as "exploit Wednesday" where cyber criminals take advantage of the long delay between patches or repairs.
