
Rootkits are a relatively new phenomenom that was first recognized around the middle of 2005. Rootkits are hidden programs difficult to identify and difficult to remove and repair unlike other computer virus removals. Rootkits are often used to conceal running processes and are known to exist in several operating systems such as Linux, Solaris and Microsoft OS.
